We had a rather interesting evening tonight. Only in the Yates house do things go so awry. I arrived home to find Kris giving Conrad a bath. This may seem like a fairly normal sort of activity, but with Conrad we have found a bath is a two man operation and while his first couple went well; since then he pretty much screams through the whole thing. So of course I was surprised Kris would be taking this task on just by his own choice and alone. Well he had reason. He tells me he wasn't thinking. Now I am getting worried right, so he had his travel coffee mug in one hand and the car seat and I guess was trying to open the door with so much in his hands he stupidly took the hand with the coffee mug and turned the doorknob with that hand spilling coffee all over Conrad, the car seat, blanket, etc. Fortunately the coffee was cold from sitting all day but he felt awful. Conrad I guess just looked at him, covered in coffee. On half of his face and didn't cry.
Kris finished up bath time and I grabbed his clothes, car seat insert, blanket, and a few other things we had to be washed and threw them in the machine for a quick run right away.
Of course we went on with our evening and while Kris was finishing up making dinner we laughed that the whole house was vibrating from the washer...
Okay so we have a laundry room. It is sort of a laundry closet you can walk into. Basically there is enough room for the machines and you can walk in and put clothes in and out of them. Also the door to this laundry room opens in. Maybe you are getting where this is headed. I went to change the wet to dry and the laundry room door would only open about two inches as the washer had bounced and rattled its way to the middle of the room in front of the door. Of course the door hinges are on the inside of the laundry room. I can get my arm in and push on the machine but to get the right angle to push it, not so much and of course it is just hitting up against the dryer on the other side. Kris can barely get his arm in the crack. We are stuck. I try the window, take off the screen from the outside and no, locked. For those who know Kris he is pretty tense about everything be closed and locked so really there is no surprise there. I am thinking break in the door, we can replace it, otherwise all I can think of is cutting a big hole in the wall and that was not what I wanted to be doing.
Kris thinks if he takes the door handle off it will give him a little more room for the door to open as it was hitting the machine, so he gets the tools and takes that off, of course the inside part falls to the floor inside the room and the door gets closed. nNw we couldn't open the door! I really thought we were sunk, but Kris got the latch loose and the door open again, that gave us just enough more room that with Kris could get his arm a little better and push the side of the machine. With him pushing it back and using the broom to pull it away from the dryer he was finally able to get the door open and us back into the laundry room. I guess we will be doing laundry with the door open for a while. I think the machine was just a bit unbalanced because that has never happened like that before, but it was sure a fun way to spend some time this evening.
The circus of our household never ceases to amaze...
