I am starting my 31st week this week. Apparently now my baby will start gaining about a half a pound a week. I have been saying I don't seem to be as big as others I have been seeing who are not as far along or very close to me in due date, but now as these pounds start packing on the little man maybe I will have to change my tune. I need to ask my doctor just how much I have gained so far but it is in the range of 20 pounds so not bad really.
As the baby grows and gets more crowded in there his arms and legs will stay drawn up close to his body in the "fetal" position. You wouldn't really know this since I am feeling him more and more and in weird places and weird ways, like what are you doing, rubbing your bum on my chest cavity?
Also our baby can now process information from all five senses, we talked about this in one of the childbirth classes and how if we shown a flashlight to my belly he would be able to make out the difference of light and dark and that their heart rates and things change based on different foods I eat for taste - like sour, or smells I smell.
Now his lungs are the only system that is not fully mature. Soon we will be where we could have him and it would be fine. These days with all of the medical advancements he would likely survive if he was born today, but no need to hurry him along.
Childbirth class tonight... more on that and updates on the nursery this weekend.
